A Quick Switch Day...

Today our kids from Edmonds leave. We have had a great time with them, seeing more of Nicaragua. It's been a good time for them to experience life here and to unravel all that God has been showing them. Has it made it easier for them to go home? That remains to be seen. They are seeking God and therefore I can give them the direction that when they return home they need to focus on God's amazing love and not just everything that happen in Nicaragua. Please pray for them as they travel today and as they re enter the US.

I am headed to the airport in 45 minutes for my next team! A group of California, 18 people. I think I am ready. Of course I am tired but God will give me the strength and endurance to enter into these relationships and serve as an encourager for them and one that can direct their eyes to God.

Dwight and the kids will take it easy a bit. 2 weeks non stop with a team has worn them out, not to mention Dwight's sprained ankle has slowed him down. They will fit in when and where they want. I think it will be very good for them to land at the Villa for a time.

Payton Young has been here since the 20th, it has been a great time for her. What a great opportunity to spend time with a group of amazing kids that are seeking God ~ she is watching and learning and sharing so much!!!! She will go with me and the team this week to la chureca and several other places.

We decided that when there are teams our whole family will eat at the Villa for lunch and dinner ~ there is no way I could cook and facilitate a team. Yesterday someone mentioned that they can't imagine living with out a microwave and that was the first time that I had noticed that we were missing something! God is good.

The kids have about 2 more weeks until school starts. We had an interview with the Director last week, all went well. We have a little uniform shopping to, the kids were relieved to find out that they can wear more casual shoes that first expected. I can't wait to post those first day of school pictures.

Last night as we were sharing with the Edmonds kids, Josh said he could live here forever. Hm.

Ok, no more time to write.

We are so thankful for all of you and for your loving words and encouragement. We are praying for you.

More soon........

  1. Loved checking in with you all today/tonight... There seems to be so much more to share, and yet so much seems insignificant. I was very happy today that Tyler was close for his difficult injury. The pictures you posted most recently are awesome! Will have to find more time to talk at some point--just the two of us. Love you guys, all. Hang in there, William. Sometimes it just is hard to be away from everything familiar. I remember those feelings several times when I lived in Japan. And sometimes, you just have to break down a bit, to grow to the next level :-) It was good to see all your smiling faces. Let's skype again, maybe even regularly when life settles a bit, huh? Love, Lucy

Ten years ago, April of 2010 we were busy cleaning our house and selling everything we didn't think we would want in a year when we returned from Nicaragua.  Our plan was to spend a year in Nicaragua, actually, Dwight's plan was 6 months.  Our plan was for such a short time because if the kids were struggling or if it wasn't a good fit for us, then we could change plans and return to the U.S..  We rented our house furnished.  We all packed two suitcases and were ready to leave for Nicaragua on June 28.  The evening of the 27th we got a call from American Airlines saying our flight had been cancelled.  Wait a minute I thought; we are moving to Nicaragua, our bags are packed, we have left our house, you can't cancel our flight.  But they did and rescheduled us to fly out two days later. That is how our life has been over the last 10 years.  We make a plan, and our plan, for the most part, has not gone at all as we expected.  I think we are...
William with new friends at La Chureca. He thought we should give this puppy to Larry since he gave us Gallo Pinto. NO MORE ANIMALS! Finally a few pictures! Here is a classroom at El Faro church after we painted. Our team after helping to fix the water line. Yesterday another pipe burst, but today we have water again. Praying for a woman named Sylia at La Chureca. Her family has started burning the bones to make compost, they also host youth group at their house every week, 20 kids come. In the trash at La Chureca. We walked and prayed for people. We had a wonderful free day today at Pochomil beach. We swam, rode horses, rented boogie boards and collected shells. It was a good day. Pray for energy to do this second half of our trip as well. I have sensed from the beginning of our time together as a team that our time in Rio Blanco would be very important. On Sunday (Billys 18th birthday) he will preach at church in the morning and Dave will preach at night, it should be...
Today we went to HAT, hogar acogital de temporal, a government run temporary housing for kids that are from abusive homes or off the streets. It was a good day, we cleaned and played a lot with kids. We ended the day with a fiesta, complete with pinata and ice cream. Once again our team was amazing! So willing all the time. I forgot to mention that this morning as we were driving to HAT, Sam was looking out the window and as we drove away from a stop light a guy grabbed her eye glasses off of her face! She was quite startled. I told Mario and that fast we turned the bus around and found the guy that took them. He was selling fruits and fortunately had them sitting on his selling table and Mario was able to grab them back! Praise God!!!! It was quite an intimidating moment and good lesson, anything that can be sold is something to try to get down here. God is so good that they were sitting right out on a table!!!! Dwight, Kerri and I have spent the last hour trying to upload p...
