What an amazing team!!!!!
Today we spent our morning at La Chureca, the dump. Pastor Ramon and his wife Miriam walked us through, introducing us to families and we heard many testimonies. One man who over sees the property where the feeding program takes place has been freed from alcoholism, he is so full of joy, his name is Fransisco.
After we visited Francisco, Miriam asked if we wanted to walk where they work in the trash. Of course I wanted to!!! This is not a normal part of the walk through, Miriam told our kids that God has big plans for them and after today they will not be the same. She told them to listen to their parents for they know what is right for them and love them so much.
We walked through so much trash. Things were burning all around us. There were hundreds of men, women and children working so hard. There were burning animal carcasses and then burning bones. They have started burning bones to make compost. It is a different world, but this morning I asked the kids to look for ways that we are similar, we will see what they say at our debrief tonight. We layed hands on and prayed for many people.
After our time at La Chureca we went to clean El Faro (the lighthouse) Iglesia. They only had a little bit of water, which made washing walls and floors really difficult. After we did all that we could, Dave asked if it would be possible to paint some of the classrooms, it would look so much better..... I was trying to think of a time in our schedule and really there was no other time, so I left with Mario, Josh, Billy and a few guys that work at the church and we bought 2 5 gallon buckets of paint and for our afternoon painted 3 classrooms blue! What a beautiful thing! The kids and the rest of us worked so hard. When you meet people that have given up their whole lives to love people that live in the trash you cannot help but want to give them the very best of what you have!!!!!
I know we will have a lot to talk about tonight!
As far as my kids, William has made friends with every Nicaraguan worker at the Villa and all of our bus drivers! He is out hunting for geckos now. Last night we almost ended up with two more baby birds, they had fallen out of a tree and one of the workers thought it would be good for him to keep them until they could take care of themselves! NO WAY I SAID, well not really cause I cannot say that in spanish, haha.
Josh and Maggie worked hard today, painting and cleaning with the team. Maggie has declared that she and Janelle Kono are two of kind, so sweet!
Love you all! Seriously I will put pictures on soon. Dios le bendiga.
